I haven't looked any of these guys up in
so long it's it's been 20 years
[Music]
we were so
close and then the way the show just
ended our little Brotherhood was was no
more
really there's still such a curtain
pulled over the whole
show we never heard from mirim
again it's so sad
it's to think that we might have had
anything to do with
that I hope we
didn't the most explosive dating
experience of a lifetime six red-blooded
Bachelors looking for love with one
stunning babe she's called Miriam and
she's caused quite a controversy when
she took part in a new dating prob heard
of our next guest she's called Miriam
and is at the center of a massive
Scandal that has cost Sky Television
reported 3/4 of a million pound weeks
they vied for her affections they kissed
her apparently they got intimate with
her there is a secret that the guys
don't know
for the TV show they gave us load of
cash and put us up in this fourstar
Resort it was amazing honestly it was
amazing all paid for everything the one
who's living today
Mar and when more people got voted off
our group got bigger and bigger they
want have to go is done everybody was
always a bit distraught because they're
off but as soon as they were with me I'm
taking them to the bar and we were
having a great
time Aon you're the sweetest guy from
all of them and you always there for me
the one who's living today
don't wor about it it's
okay I like to say I was the BR
medalist but I kind of knew my time was
up by that
point leaving Tom and and Scott as the
uh as the finalist you know it was
excited we was excited for them to see
you know you know who's going to
win the competition for Miriam's
affections is he eating
up whoever she chooses will get to spend
a week with her on a luxury yacht with
£10,000 to boot but the heroic guys have
no idea that Miriam is as much Steve as
Eve as much Arthur as Martha from the
waist down she's a man I genuinely
believed that it was going to be talked
about of course it's going to be talked
about it never been done
before ever on
television Miriam wouldn't reveal she
was a transgender woman until the
end that reveal was crucial for for
us but there was not a deliberate
intent
to screw people
over I've met something that I do really
like and I do feel quite a lot for it
yeah she yeah she's really nice
hopefully she does pick me at the end
cuz that is what I want Tom and Scott
understandably really really bowled over
by Miriam and you know i' would say like
a kind of intimacy is is forming there
you were very mysterious like at the
beginning of the show which is what I
find really attractive about you because
I always want to find out more but yeah
I like you a
lot leading up to the reveal day where
Miriam was going to tell boys you know
like her secret I was getting really
really stressed out and I didn't really
want to be spending any more time around
the boys than I needed
to the reveal was the essential concept
to the show and we're all like cats on
Hot in roofs we were just totally
freaked out and just really kind of
dreading what was going to come
I was working in the
hospital and got a phone call out the
blue from Phil Edgar Jones who was the
big boss at Big
Brother I had done a couple of jobs for
him he phed me to say that there was a
program that was in production that was
coming to an end and he was a bit
concerned about what might happen and he
wondered whether I would be prepared to
fly out to support the
cast but you wouldn't tell me anything
until I sign an NDA
I signed the NDA then you sent me the
brief through and it was there's
something about
miam and my heart
sang reality TV was brand new and it was
a bit like the wild west there was no
rate limiter on what producers could do
so they would do more and more extreme
things over the next week 10 people are
going to go without sleep nobody knows
whether this can be done or what will
happen people were desperate to go to TV
welcome to the hopefuls people who say
they do anything to get on television
but if you give a production company or
a Channel free re to do whatever they
want to
someone then they'll do what they want
to someone this is the most elaborate
and expensive hoax in British TV
history so what could possibly go wrong
what sales is SE and violence and
conflict and other we like shad and
Freud to look at the television think
haha at least it's not
me there's something about Miriam was
all of these things wrapped into
one my special interest in Psychiatry
was working with transp patients so I
break the NDA speak to my boss who says
do it because if you don't they're
making it anyway and it's all going to
go to [\h__\h]
Kenneth my real fear was the reveal the
one last wh back the
curtain and how people are going to
react well the whole premises of the
show is about the reaction you know when
the winner is picked and there's a
reveal that's just the nature of
Television programming and certainly
reality but this idea that this poor
young person was plucked out of Mexico
and dumped you know into this situation
she was a Savvy clever woman she knew
exactly what she was getting into and
why and she wanted to be part of
it
right hi everybody I'm Mar I'm Jo you y
my friends
and know medium since she was a
kid we grew up in the same town and
son we are sisters
and I love her and I want to make sure
that people know who milon was
growing up in a mum in
Mexico there was not a lot of option for
a girl like me like
medium in that time if you going to go
to school you had to dress up as a boy
with a
uniform so in my case I decide to quit
the school I'm going to follow my dreams
but if I you don't finish the school
that was a work on a salon work on a
club or just say your body there was the
other
options so at the age of 16 I start
working in the
nightclub I was doing really
good because one I was beautiful
I am and U I was very
passible very feminine so it was very
easy for me to pass like a any SE woman
you know so that made me like a small
town
celebrity the first time I me me I was
in a
salon a friend of mine was doing my
hair and I guess that she saw me through
the window
I remember she run
inside Daniela is you Daniel is you I
say
yes hi danela how are you you're so
beautiful I want to I want to be like
like you
someday I remember she was looking like
a little boy Dr up with with a
wig with a tennis shoes and and
jeans and she told me that she left home
and and pray that week on she start
walking in the street she's she's to
know how to feel to be a
woman she just want to be
herself she just want to be
medium but grow up being trans sometimes
people push us
away because we are different people
don't understand but we are just humans
and we try to survive in this world
which just want to
be I land
Nea and appeared at a meeting that
evening to talk about the plans for the
reveal all the crew sitting around a big
table with the executive producer Remy
at the top and um Miriam not
there everyone looks as if their cat has
just died literally it was like walking
into into a weight little like that
apart from Remy who comes in crisp and
clean and perfectly
ironed and starts running through the
order so what we're going to do is after
the reveal we'll have canopies and
champagne on the Terrace here with the
boys and then we can all go off and have
a drink in
town and then introduces me got 10
minutes with the voice as we
said at which point
car my hand him excuse
me um I said I think I'll need more than
10 minutes how much time do you think
you'll need and I'm like God
might I don't know maybe an hour 2 hours
maybe something like that and and also
maybe might might not be a good idea to
have rap part with everyone together but
you know to have another plan for that
and they hadn't thought about that at
all Ry was all for the
shock that's what I
believed he wanted to create something
that was going to be huge regardless of
what the outcome would be he wanted
things done a certain
way he just he didn't care what
everybody else thought it was his way or
no
way relax welcome to maran's massage pal
massage it was very difficult for me I
wanted to tell them the truth but I had
to wait till the end
you know I love to kiss you but it's got
sitting over there you know by
the [\h__\h]
N I feel like I've been playing with
people's feelings and it's just
something that you don't do and the
jealousy but it's part of the show you
know the guys have to do their thing I
have to do my thing something is not
right it's it's hard it's hard what's
hard then because
cuz I don't want to not lose but I don't
want to I mean leave and you be with
someone else you know what I mean cuz I
do like you so so you're jealous from my
point of view I could see it like a
hurricane coming I think you I think
you're brilliant and I've never met
anyone like you never in my
life and she had no idea what she was
walking into
it's the night before the last day of
filming tomorrow I will have to choose a
winner but what I'm really dreading is
telling all the boys my secret we had a
lot of fun together and I hope they will
still respect me for who I
am at that time how did you feel about
the
deception I didn't feel anything in the
business of making television
shows um I I didn't feel anything about
the format that I felt
was bad or
wrong or I didn't feel that
way I I did I really didn't what did you
think the purpose of it
was entertainment
we have to get our hits around that
we're in the business of making shows to
entertain do I think it went beyond any
kind of moral codes of
conduct
no you know what is going to happen for
the one WIS right we're going to go
swimming we're going to be doing a lot
of great stuff on the scene yeah but
it's not going to be us gu it's going to
be one of
us I been brought in Ely just to look
after the boys no one had given a
thought to how Mar might
feel the reveal was her coming out to
world and as far as I was aware miam
hadn't been s tested no one had thought
about what was going on inne what would
she how would she deal with
rejection not just rejection from
whoever it was that she
picked but from everyone that he T trans
people were freaks
I asked to meet
Miriam and she was very softly spoken
demure and she was sure that um she was
going to pick Tom and Tom really liked
her he was open-minded and he would be
fine and she would love to spend some
time with him she genuinely genuinely
planted
him and I was trying to gently as
possibly gently as could reframe and say
what happens if they're upset because
they find out about your secret how do
you feel about that Miriam are you
worried about it and she was very I'm
going to be famous this is going to be
great I'm fine I've deal with worse in
my life you know this is my story but
you know I don't need any support I'm
going to be okay that was it was very
off part but like like a rehearsed
contributor um that you know come in and
tell you what you think you want to hear
and I just was
let theyve sold her a dream without
anybody telling her what could go wrong
I thought she's
vulnerable but she' had a really really
hard life the comp with the broken
wing fore
fore
foree
m m
we were a family of six Mom Dad um Four
Brothers in
total the oldest one was
Louise and then
oo that's
Paco and then me
even though we're living in a poor
neighborhood he was impeccable and
everything that he
were if we were playing on the street uh
you probably will see you on the corner
just standing up not playing on the
ground he was a very very different kind
of person
bum
foreign for
and
for
homosexual for
there was one
night somebody knocked the
door and it was some kind of a minister
that my dad
sent I remember that my mom just asked
asked him what what this was all about
he says I was just to pray for
who was like just trying to figure out
what to
think and then with his hand on on
Miriam forehead and just touching him
and just screaming
you cannot stop it at the time we were
in chock like what what is happening
for demonio f
when left from our
house I think that it was the the last
time that I saw him as a
boy that was
the the last step for o and the first
step for Miriam
I can
understand how it might
be kind of
hard when I was 15 I ran away from
home one night I had a dream
I Heard a Voice as clear as life she
told me to be proud be strong she said
the world was waiting for me trust the
future things will come to
you
start it's my own
fault what happens
to I always know
one day medium short at the club where I
was
working she followed me to
T I was in shock when I saw her she
showed with a sand week but she looks
more feminine now she have a small U you
know fies already because she started
the hormone therapy she was Danelle I'm
here I want to work with you I said
okay I said okay so yeah we we got to
speak with a manager and yeah she she
start working right away the same
night I look it back and I was thinking
like yeah oh my God that me that was too
young that was on their age too I was 17
in the
time it was it's crazy but remember that
was different
times you will be surprised how many
shall work as a stripper in a woman's
club that was not necessary to say that
you was trans woman in the time you just
you're very passable and you are a
woman other trans sexual we all we start
living
together we're like a Sisterhood you
know we we really have fun
she was beautiful she make $1,000 in one
day500 in one day if she want
to she was making so much money she got
a a boo
job for her and for every transexual I
think is uh one of the dreams come
true because you see that six woman they
have an Beau you beautiful breast and
you just want like you want them to you
know she got a in the
morning at night time she was at the
club dancing
already she was really crazy person and
she was dancing with her hands up and
when of the implants come
out she told me she was looking for the
implant she definitely become a full
woman at that
time but in this environment that we
live in as a trans woman you had to be
very smart to grow up really
fast I had to be careful like they don't
touch me when they can't find out where
I was
if a male find out that you are narcis
woman there are two options maybe he
will love you and and accept
you or he beat
you she have a lot of power and her
beauty she want to become a model or
like a super model or something
really
big I miss
her maybe she will be with us if
I I should never do that show
the last day of filming was the most
frightening day of my life Not only was
I revealing myself to the guys I was
revealing myself to the
world as well as that I had to be good
on camera because the whole series
depended on the drama of that moment
everybody on the crew the production
staff we all just felt like this kind of
sense of trepidation there was a
potential [\h__\h] storm ahead for
sure something's going to happen I know
like you know it as well yes what you
signed for you signed for anything to
happen at any time something will happen
there were a number of Staff who chose
not to be too
close myself included boys trusted me
and I didn't want to be that person you
know that had duped
them we thought of the TV show was done
and dusted they suddenly came to us out
the blue to say we're going to take you
back to the TV
show when we got back to the Villa we
saw some unfamiliar faces they big big
tall tall guys so I suddenly clocked one
in the left one in the balcony Corner
one in the wall two behind us we've been
working with the crew for ages and
suddenly thought there's a lot of extra
people and they're bigger people oh
they're just going to be helping us out
with the equipment when when it's a wrap
later we found out there were bouncers
that had been
hired we hled in the sort of the kitchen
straight Lounge
area and then we kind of marched down in
the front to be
filmed it was quite
nerve-wracking everything we had done
it had all been build into
this welcome back
guys Tom Scott congratulations you made
it to the very end one of you will be
offer the trip of a lifetime with Miriam
£10,000 well I'm going to put you out of
your misery and ask Miriam to announce
winner Tom you you're funny you're
hilarious and you always make me
happy Scott you're brilliant
fantastic and
honest but we all know one of you has to
be the
winner and the winner
is time to the
[Applause]
winner you know we could kind of exhale
a bit go right oh you know um we'd had
so much fun filming it
all and we thought that was going to be
it of course it
wasn't congratulations how do you
feel yeah brilliant fantastic amazing
great well before you claim the
prize no has something to
say I try to be honest with all of you
as much as I
can yes I'm from Mexico I'm a model and
I'm
21 but
Tom I really love spending time with you
and kissing
you you see I love men
and I love being a
woman
but I'm not a woman I knew I was born as
a
man as soon as you say it I am not a
woman all the boys start to laugh and
that's when I thought [\h__\h]
told you all I told you but they weren't
her
words miam's final review was written
that was scripted I overheard a
conversation about how they would
work but she said them so they become
her words you know I I was born a man is
what she said so they immediately
thought I've just fancied a
[Laughter]
man it was so incredible
uncomfortable it felt like all the air
had been sucked out the room and Tom
just starts
gasping and as he's doing that he's
looking around at everybody all around
him all the crew the production staff
and just realizing the level of
Deceit is there anything you'd like to
ask Miriam
Tom
um well I'm obviously shocked as you you
can guess so I don't know really I'm
kind of lost for words for
once well it's a big shock but it's a
shock that still needs a decision as
I've said there is a boat in the bay for
you and Miriam with £10,000 on
board Miriam's waiting for an
answer you going to go
ground yeah yeah I'll go of course yeah
you know we're all good friends
here give them a round of applause guys
I told you I told
that's conspiracy it was the very nature
of this kind of pack mentality of lads
kind of shaming each other that just
made everything go totally
wrong was very shocked and I wouldn't
want to spend a week on a boat with
someone I couldn't trust someone who's
deceived me me and everybody in the
house I was honest when I was in that
house everybody was honest and and they
were all just being ourselves and
um he wasn't he was lying to everybody
and he doesn't have that right and no
one has that
right I don't think it's fair you can't
SC it would have been nice to have the
money but I I wouldn't want to a second
more with her I I don't respect her one
bit and tidal wave of emotion at one
minute you're consoling Tom and Scott
the next you're thinking oh my goodness
how long have I been in this show what
have I done it was spiral and out of
control you could see the anger and the
whole emotion in Scott's face the red
eyes and the
mist and
Scott just went berserk absolutely lost
and I remember the director jumping over
the corner of the swimming pool chased
by
Scott and I felt sorry for anybody
behind one of his
punches it was an utter utter [\h__\h]
[\h__\h]
show that's when the pain dropped with
Remy you could just see him going oh
[\h__\h] and I was like Remy make yourself
scarce
because they're going to kill
you I went back to the hotel and was
shaking from the experience I didn't
know if they were going to punch me or
attack
me I wasn't out to hurt anyone's
feelings no one in the crew will talk to
me they were all my friend during the
filming and now they don't want to know
me
I feel really upset and
alone the last thing I wanted to do was
a show that poked fun at
her having cast the contributors so
carefully led me to believe that they
would accept her story with the empathy
I felt but they didn't and part of that
was my fault as well because we brought
all the contributors together and in the
end it became about the men feeling that
somehow their masculinity had been
called into question by the fact that
they had been attracted to a woman who
trans I went into this room to talk to
boys andan wasn't as upset as Tomas Scot
and Tomas was upset and
crying and SC was pcing kept
tiger and I need to do something now to
C this stand and what the [\h__\h] do I say
that's going to make this any
better they were like I'm going to
[\h__\h] kill
her no no w w w w Bo right just
saying yes she didn't tell you something
but it's not her this is not on her you
people you're angry with is the is the
crew and that's who the wear anger is
the cre people run about them that they
become friends with that they felt had
betrayed them who were in on the biggest
practical joke in the
world it started to all hit home a
bit and then the language changes again
it's not fun language now it's are you
okay language what you mean I'm my okay
it was a prank was it a prank hang on a
minute this is what's going on here no
hang on a minute and it all starts
sinking in everything that we've done
and we thought we were having
fun it feels like maybe they've just got
their kicks and we were kind of just
Collateral
Damage I began to get a little bit more
annoyed on the boys behalf sort of
thinking no one's understood who these
boys are and how big an impact this
could have on their
life Tom particular was confused about
how his sexuality would be portrayed his
said he's an actor I can't be a gay
actor because at that time 20 years ago
the boys saw someone with breasts and
make upon inner dress with genitals male
genitals as a man they didn't think that
she was a
woman I will say sorry
because I li to them not only Tom to the
other boys too
and my message for them will
be I'm a human being and I'm a normal
person and don't judge people for what
they are outside sh people for what they
are
inside did you speak to her after the
reveal
itself
yeah can you tell me about that
conversation
after the reveal and after the men had
reacted it was important to reassure
Miriam
and help her understand it wasn't about
her it was about was nothing she'd
done she had a feeling a kind of sense
of bravado like oh they you know that's
what you can expect that people will
always reject you always hurt you always
exclude
you there's a weary inevitability about
it with
her many trans people don't make their
leap into trying to have
relationships and can stay you know
celibate for the rest of their life
because it's Society that stops people
being accepting over it it's not the
person because it's the surely it's the
person we
love but people don't see it that way
because there's not enough positivity
around trans
issues it was not a fun flight home
we weren't laughing and
joking we were more thinking back on
everything what did we do what did we
say we felt very
vulnerable part of the analysis by this
psychiatrist was to send us back to
London as a
teen and the TV show puts in a five-star
hotel for 2 or 3 days
we all bunked up in in one hotel room so
we started doing silly things lads being
Lads cuz we knew that the company were
picking it up it was just a
free-for-all everything got smashed in
that hotel room everything was signed
with Like Bugs Bunny or Roger Rabbit or
whatever it was just pure
Carnage and at the end of those two days
we're like what should we do now we
needed to figure it out together cuz it
feels a bit unjust
and then we thought let's get an
injunction stop the show from coming
out we felt like well hang on a minute
we feel like you've taken something from
us we feel like we're going to take the
show away from
you once they returned home the Press
decided to kick
off there's no laughing and joking at
that point our solicitors were showing
pornographic material with Miriam in it
after that everything just started
falling
apart and
then she
disappear e
